Pattern Description:
Mens Tshirts with ribbing or self fabric neckbands. These shirts have a little shaping through the waist making the fit more modern.

Pattern Sizing:s-xl

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yep

Were the instructions easy to follow?Didn't look at the instructions because I have sewn at least a bazillion t-shirts in my lifetime.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I liked that the patterns wasn't as baggy as some t-shirt patterns are.

Fabric Used:Cotton(?) Jersey camo--very thin almost sheer. It had very little stretch to it and funky selveges. The lack of stretch factored into changing the original plan which was to use a self neckband. Once I saw how bad it gaped, I tore it off and used a scrap of thin black ribbing.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:See above neckband change. I think I like the black better. Made length to L.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I will be sewing this again for my son. He has gotten into the EZ Screen Printing method and wants to do some printing DURING the construction of the shirt--for instance after the shoulder seam in sewn but before the neck band and sleeves. Maybe something down and over the shoulder.
I would recommend this pattern for others since it is easy to construct on the serger. I used my Coverpro 1000 for the sleeves and bottom hems with black thread. So it would be a good project for new Coverpro owners to possibly make a nice t-shirt for their mates to show how valuable the CP is! I would suggest you try hard to find ribbing for your project because you would have to get just the right fabric to use a self band for a guy, IMHO.

Conclusion: I made this shirt in less than an hour for my son since he started his Senior year last week. It is traditional for the Seniors to wear camo the first week. I used black wooly nylon in the loopers of both serger and coverstitch machines. I used the wide 3 thread stitch on my serger with the wooly. I didn't use the 4 thread since this fabric was thin and that would have been a lot of thread in the seams. To me the sleeves look a little long but DS likes them. I used size medium except for the length--it was to the L line. He is 6'1" and apx 190-195 pounds and has been working out and conditioning for football. We thought there would be more of a "gun show" but he wasn't into having his pic taken --can't you tell? It was Dollar Scoop Night at Baskin-Robbins and he wanted OUT--probably meeting some girl...
EDITED TO ADD: my son was posing with his arms crossed in front of him until I said "put your arms away from your body so I can see the sleeves." That's what is up with the arms. And I knew I only had one shot at the pic so there it is...Debbie Cook will have to tell me how she gets her boys to smile!

mhk3boys 8/19/09Your shirt looks great! Handsome son!

JEF 8/19/09The photo is priceless because he is SO projecting "I'm a teenage boy whose mother is making him take the photo for some SEWING website." Seriously, wonderful job on the shirt - it looks great.

clearlysewcrazy 8/19/09I love the photo. Yes, his face says it all. I have four children and they all take pics of themselves and their friends continuously but if I make them something and want a pic the eyes start to roll. Aren't teenagers grand? On the sewing note, your shirt looks great. It fits him to a tee! heehee. Do take it as a compliment that your son wants you to sew for him. My youngest daughter acts like I am putting her through sheer torture but I found out through her friends that she told everyone I made her prom dress. For a teenager to admit to that is a HUGE compliment. I do have a question. Do you use a stabilizer such as clear elastic in your shoulder seams? My son wants some close fitting tees and I haven't done much with knits.

Steffie 8/19/09Great job! Thanks for the review.

Mrs.Moos 8/19/09I used NO stabilisere or elastic in the shoulders since the fabric wasn't very stretchy. Had it more stretch, I may have stuck a narrow piece of elastic in the seam though because you know how male people put on and take off their shirts---NOT GENTLY!

homejewel 8/19/09What a great looking t-shirt. I think every mom of a teenage boy is smiling at this. Frankly, that you even have a picture of him in this shirt is amazing. Kudos to you!

mssewcrazy 8/19/09Good looking son and tee shirt there! I am amazed as well you got a photo opp. There are two things I find offspring avoid - a tape measure or fitting session and/or a photo snap.
