Pattern Description: Yoga Pants

Pattern Sizing: XS - XL

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Pretty much although the pattern looks more bootleg while mine don't seem to flare as much.

Were the instructions easy to follow?Very, Very easy. I think just about anyone who has mastered the most basic fundamentals of sewing could make these. It would be a perfect first project for someone wanting to try their hand at working with stretch knits.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I liked:
1. They are quick to make.
2. They fit nicely (though I thought they would be a little more hip hugger).
3. They look just like the expensive youg pants that sell for a lot more $$$$.
Athleta Yoga Pants for $69

Fabric Used: Supplex that I got on sale at Fabric.com. It is currently on sale for $3.59/yd...I made these out of 1.5 yards. By the way this fabric is also used by Patagonia to make some very cool dresses. It is very stretchy and easy to work with..great for Yoga clothes but would make a nice dress or top. It has some weight to it. The sale ends 8/31.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:The only change I made was to add 3" in length to the legs..1.5" between crotch and knee and 1.5" between knee and hem. I did not add to the crotch depth after comparing it to some VS yoga pants I have. The measurement was the same but these are a bit higher..maybe because the fabric has more stretch. I think when I make them again I may use a little beefier elastic because they feel like they could slide down a bit but I think this is because of the stretchyness of the fabric. My VS yoga pants are a thinner cotton lycra and they have no elastic at all. I might try to find some almost as wide as the waistband.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I have already got some more of this fabric ordered to make another pair. These are a great project for an almost beginner or for an experienced sewer who is looking for an instant gratification project.

Conclusion: MAKE THESE SOON!! I am serious, these are great for working out but are also nice around the house lounging type attire...an attractive substitute for sweats. They would also be great for fall hikes, chilly walks on the beach, apre ski or surf, you name it!!! I think in a heavy type of knit they may even work as office pants with the right type of top.

Mebber 8/30/09Super review. I am on a mission for a pattern for yoga pants and you've got me convinced. Tired of spending all of that $$$ on RTW yoga clothes - these look great. Thanks for the info.

homejewel 8/31/09Ok, I have this pattern, but only made the top (not reviewed yet). The pants look perfect on you. There is nothing like yoga pants for comfort! Great job.

Cerisa 8/31/09You are dead right about this pattern. I have made several pairs and they have all turned out well. My 19 year old DD will even wear them in the gym. I have also made a pair in Ponti De Roma (sp?) which would be fine in the office as you suggest.

Karla Kizer 8/31/09Your pants look perfect, so you probably don't need any suggestions...but here goes: after you've put the pant legs together, fold the waistband and wrap it around your abdomen to see how snug you want it. Cut it to your customized length before you attach it to the pants; you'll probably have to stretch it quite a bit as you sew it on. This lets you make adjustments for the stretchiness of the fabric you're using and - bonus - your pants will stay up. This pattern is one PR's most popular and your pants are a good indication of why. They look great.

Heidi Ho 8/31/09Karla, thank you for the recommendation. I will try that on the next pair. I did do some stretching this morning and they don't actually ride down.

Diane E 8/31/09These are fantastic. You did a wonderful job.

o3b 9/1/09Can I ask about the Supplex specifically? Your review prompted me to look at the Supplex, although I missed the sale due to time zone differences. But is the Supplex more like men's swimsuits or boardshorts or more like a stretchy knit top? How is it for comfort in an intense/sweaty workout?
