Pattern Description: Yoga Top with matching Bralet

Updated 9/13/09 to add photos of my second top and bralet using this pattern. I cut this top a little wider through the hips, about 1/4" at each seam. This one is made from Supplex from Fabric.com
Turquoise Version Front
Front Close Up
Pattern Sizing: XS - XL I made a small.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Were the instructions easy to follow?Very easy to follow as with all Kwik Sew patterns I have used.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the fact that there were 2 sets of lengthen/shorten lines. Other KS tops I have made had none. The style is nice and the fit is good though I would warn anyone with hips to add a bit extra. I have no hips and I still could have used more width there.
I didn't understand the big note on the pattern warning not to cut between two sizes though. That made no sense to me at all esspecially since Kwik Sew covers a measurement range for each size ie. a small is 34" to 35.5" bust which IMHO is a broad range. If anyone knows why they have this comment I would love to know the reasoning. A small digression since I cut a Small but it seemed an odd warning.

Fabric Used: Dryflex from Fabric.com (my favorite fabric store site). It is a wicking poly/lycra.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I added 2" length to the top. This may be why the hip felt a tad more snug than I would like. I typically don't like tops that are as short as shown in the picture on the envelope they look out of porportion due to my height (5'10"). I have a second top cut out and I have added .25" at the hip on each side tapering back to the waist. I did not make any change to the bralet. In the photo I have it on with no bra and I am an A cup. It looks better with a bra (with a little padding) but I wanted to show other flatties like me how it fit with the dart.
Bralet
By the way this little bralet would be perfect to make instead of a cami to wear under those items that are too low cut to wear to the office without one. It would eliminate that extra often annoying layer. I tried it under a KS twist top I made which is too low cut for work and it is really great.

Also I stabilized the neck edge and armhole with strips of "Sheer Elegance" interfacing. This helps keep it from stretching out and helps keep the double needle topstitching from tunneling.
Example

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I have another one halfway made out of some turquoise supplex from Fabric.com. While this is an activewear top it would work great for any occaision. It needs to be made from a very stretchy knit (75%) otherwise it may be too tight. It is great for the office with the bralet though I could wear it elsewhere solo as it is not super low cut.

Conclusion: Another great KS pattern!!! Here are some more views:

sewbehind 8/30/09Heidi, your top and yoga pants (earlier Kwik Sew review) look great. I like your tip about the bralet as a replacement for a cami. Great review.

homejewel 8/31/09I always have to read your reviews because you are tall and a fellow "flatty" - lol. I have had this pattern on my wishlist and now I have to get it after seeing yours. It looks perfect. I 2nd the comment about the bralet instead of cami suggestion. In the summer, I do not like layers. This is the perfect solution. Great review, Heidi. PS - This is the 2nd or 3rd review mentioning the "do not cut" between the sizes on the KS patterns. It makes no sense to me, either.

Diane E 8/31/09Great top and bralet! Have you posted your question about cutting between sizes on the message board? I am curious, too. Must have something to do with the pattern drafting; but what?
