| Pattern Description: Misses' jackets have round neckline, double yoke, and front and back gathered to yoke.
View A has three quarter length sleeves and two button front closure.
View B is cropped, has a deeper neckline, elbow length sleeves and three button front closure.
I made View A.
Pattern Sizing: XS-S-M-L-XL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? They were very good, although this is not a difficult pattern.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Likes: There's enough wearing ease that I didn't need to do an FBA. Also went together very well. A relaxed style that is easy to wear. Dislikes: It was a bit of a challenge to find anything to wear under this, because of the wide neckline. Worth the challenge, though.
Fabric Used: Cotton pique that I purchased from Gorgeous Fabrics last year, I think.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I traced a medium in the shoulders and down through the armscye, then transitioned out to an XL at the waist and hips. I rotated the shoulder forward 1/2", which is typical for me. I lengthened the bodice 1". I added 2" through the upper back, and also increased the diameter of the upper sleeve by about 3/4". These are also rather typical adjustments for me.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? The pattern was well-drafted and the pieces fit together well, even after I screwed around with adjustments for a while. I've thought about making View B in a chambray, as something to throw on over a camisole. But, I don't typically wear camisoles and we rarely go anyplace that I need to throw something other than a sweatshirt over my shoulders, so that's kind of a low priority. Not a fault of the pattern, though.
Conclusion: A nice, quick pattern that can work well for casual looks. I think you could easily lengthen the sleeves and make this from corduroy for the fall/winter (unless you aren't always cold like I am, then the 3/4 sleeves would be fine). You do have to find something with a jewel neckline to wear underneath this, though, because the neckline is pretty wide. I have worn this to work several times over the summer, and it's really comfortable. I'm not a huge fan of 3/4 sleeves, but these seemed to be a good length. I liked the gathers over the bust, which gave this a little styling without a lot of work.
You might also need to really test the buttons you want to use. I originally wanted to use buttons with a shank, but I found that I needed to make a very large buttonhole, and that it just looked strange, even though the buttons were the size called for. I had a little trouble sewing the buttonholes because the sewing machine got a hung up on the front edge of the facing. I think I ripped them out a couple of times before I finally got them looking pretty good. I also had a bit of a FrayCheck problem and ended up with too much FrayCheck, but when it's buttoned you can't tell. I'm pretty sure those buttonholes will never fray!
Because of the way the front swings open, you'd want to make sure that you make this long enough that it doesn't stop right at the top of your hip if you've got some width there, like I do. That would definitely be something to consider with View B, which is shorter than View A.

Great review - may try to lessen the width of the neck | | * * * | | LollyVee | 9/2/09 | Very pretty jacket...short and sweet! | | * * * | | Mufffet | 9/2/09 | I love this. :) | | * * * | | AnnS | 9/3/09 | Love the print. I just bought this pattern (tried it on in a trunk show in a S and found the fit perfect for me) and your review is inspiring me to sew it soon! I'll leave the cropped sleeve and wear a turtleneck under it, which would solve the wide-neck look AND be warm! | | * * * | | quixoticpixels | 9/3/09 | I really like this!
