Pattern Description: The TNT Kwik Sew Men's Boxers. I bought the pattern from Sew LA on Friday and in 2-3 hours - Boxers and Review by Sunday!
Pattern Sizing: Large
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, although I didn't make J. stand as the models did! We made View A.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Now that i've gone Kwik Sew I'm not going back. I'm stuck in the middle of a Vogue Shift dress (not good for my body shape) and its amazing to see how much more clear the Kwik Sew instructions are! I've been working on the dress for two weeks and needed a project with instant gratification!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Loved this pattern. I'm getting back into sewing after about 15 years of not sewing and I learned to sew in my late 20s. I never was fantastic in garment making. I used to make the Simplicity Boxers that are still available but always had problems with the fly facing staying open. NOTHING to dislike.
Fabric Used: Cotton Fashion Fabric.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I used interfacing for the facing areas (very lightweight) to ensure the fly stayed closed. This is a fantastic pattern. I have to echo what everyone says - it is a perfect pattern. Sew LA (www.sew-la.com) still has them in stock. I can see making a ton of these. I think now that I have them down I could cut the time down to about an hour. I did sewing the backs upside down but for my first pair - I can live with it!. I also was going to take the other reviewers' suggestions re: the front of the boxers where the elastic meets are a bit bulky - but since I'm new to sewing again I wanted to see how it turned out. It is a bit bulky and I will take their suggestions in the future. I did miter the hem. Next time I might sew in french seams though I think you'd just do this to the sides and underneath the crotch area - i don't have a serger and I think it would tidy things up a bit.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes Yes Yes.
Conclusion: Very satisfying to finish a project quickly and it looks great. No alternations were needed.
