| Pattern Description:
Fitted pull-over dress and top have V-neckline and draped collar. Front
extends forming collar and facing. View A has full length sleeves and
View B has short sleeves.
Pattern Sizing:
XS-XL. I sewed a S, my usual Kwik Sew size, even though my waist and hips are in the M range. This dress fit me, but did not suit my body type very well. More on that below.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. Here it is modeled by the ultimate recipient, my friend and co-worker Dawn. She gets any of my sewing attempts that don't fit - we measure the same in the upper body but she is an inverted triangle shape and I'm either a slightly-too-much-sand-in-the-bottom hourglass or a slight pear (though my shoulders are the same width as hips.) So if something doesn't fit me in the hips, it usually fits her!
Here it is - I think it looks great on her and she got compliments on it all day at work.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were extremely easy and clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The construction was very unique, as others have noted in their review.
Fabric Used:
Slinky knit from Vogue Fabrics purchased a few years ago. The pattern calls for knit fabric with only 30% stretch, but I knew the finished measurement at the hip would be cutting it a bit close (37" if I recall correctly - I made this a few months ago - so zero ease) so I went with a stretchier knit. This wasn't enough to compensate for the semi-straight shape of this dress and its mismatch with my not-as-straight figure.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
I did sew the neckline up a bit more than the pattern indicated, but both me and Dawn needed a cami for modesty's sake anyway. I offered to take it back and raise it for her, but she said it was fine.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I wouldn't sew it again for myself, because the fit in the hips on the Small was too snug, but if I went up a size, it would be way too big in the upper body. I haven't tried altering a Kwik Sew pattern before except for length adjustments. I may make another one for Ms. Dawn (maybe in XS this time) as a gift. I believe it suits inverted triangle or rectangle shaped figures best. On me, it fit fine until it hit the hips, at which point it clung unflatteringly. It needed another inch or two of ease.
I would definitely recommend it from a construction standpoint as it probably only took me an hour and a half to make.
Conclusion:
Good pattern for inverted triangle and rectangle shapes. May need to go up one size from your normal Kwik Sew size though.

Just don't make the mistake of asking her how things look on you. She has a vested interest! ;) | | * * * | | davin | 9/30/09 | I have this pattern, especially attracted to the back neck. But, I'm wondering.....why can't you just blend to another size at the hips and keep the size that fits you on top? If I changed sizes every time my waist or hips didn't fit, it would be impossible!
Best, Davin

Just a query, do you think you could get some more value out of the pattern by making the top? | | * * * | | Heatherrique | 9/30/09 | Dawn looks fine in your new creation! It's interesting that things that what you think do not fit you well fit her better. Is it just coincidence and luck (for being your friend and co-worker) that she gets the bonus of having more nice outfits added to her wardrobe? Kudos to you for creating outfits that fit her certainly better than many RTW! | | * * * | | Mermie | 9/30/09 | Cute dress! | | * * * | | Lori V | 9/30/09 | Very cute dress | | * * * | | mhk3boys | 9/30/09 | Wow! You did a great job on construction. :) | | * * * | | Frozzy | 10/1/09 | Know what you mean with the clinging thing, if the bottom doesn't swing out it doesn't work. Have this as my next project, thanks for the fitting tips.
