| Fall Wardrobe Garment #2! only 8 to go... Pattern Description: Tops A, B have front pleats and kimono sleeve length variations. It says unfinished neck edge, I wasn't feeling the love for that.
Pattern Sizing: 6 - 22 I cut a size 12 out of a woven silk when it calls for knit. I normally cut a 12, so I had to give it a little more give through the sleeves and hips.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing it? Well, yeah. Mine has crisper fabric than the suggested knit which affects the way that the front of the shirt lays. I kind of like the look though
Were the instructions easy to follow? This is a super easy top. I didn't look at the instructions for construction, I am working on several different sewing projects at the same time and I didn't want to have another sheet laying around. I did take them out to write this review and they look pretty straightforward.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the modern look of the pleated neckline, and the illusion of sleeves without the extra work of cutting and sewing them. I didn't like the idea of a raw edge at the neckline so I drew facing patterns. I am also not crazy about the neckline, next time I will probably scoop it more.
Fabric Used: I used a lovely woven silk remnant from EOS that is textured like snakeskin, this gives it a little more play than regular woven silk. It was only a yard by about 60" wide, so I was glad to find this pattern.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made a front (pleats folded in of course) and back facing from the patterns neckline, but thought I still needed a little more give at the neckline so I created a key-hole opening with a snap at the back neckline. Funny thing about that, I dressed in a hurry and forgot to unsnap it, so I guess I don't really need it.
I understitched the facing, then stitched it down 2" from the neck edge to the point where the pleats start. I left it lose where the pleats are, you can't even see the stitching because of the texture of the fabric, so it isn't noticable that they stop.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I am pretty sure to sew this again, even out of a woven fabric like a charmuese. However, to give it a little more drape through the body I will try to cut it on the bias next time.
Conclusion: I really like this pattern. I love it in this light silk fabric in this bright, saturated blue. It was nice to sew something simple and have it turn out well.
