| Pattern Description: Toddlers' Shirts are designed for lightweight woven fabrics. We suggest cotton types, oxford cloth, broadcloth, gingham, denim, or baby-wale corduroy.
Toddlers' Shirts have a collar with a collar stand, a yoke, a front placket with a button closure, and a shirt-tail hemline. View A has long sleeves with buttoned cuffs and a breast pocket. View B has short sleeves and a breast pocket. View C has western-style yokes, long sleeves with buttoned cuffs, and front pockets with buttoned flaps.
Pattern Sizing:
Sizes: T1 - T2 - T3 - T4
I made T2 and T4. Here are some other pics.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, except I reversed the overlap to right over left for girls, used pearl snaps instead of buttons, and used shiny fabric.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Most were quite easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked that the shirt had all the adult features of a western shirt. I liked that the only visible seams are the sleeves and underarm/side seams. I finished those seams with serging. The quarter-inch seams work well if you do not need to adjust for fit.
Fabric Used:
A lovely lavender poly/lycra satin from my Ressy coop stash and pink poly satin from Vogue fabrics online. Both were substantial fabrics and didn't tend to wrinkle.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I reversed the front so it overlaps like women's clothing instead of unisex. I had followed directions and cut pockets, flaps, and yoke on the bias, but when the light shone on it, the colors were different! So I cut out new pieces on the straight grain and eliminated that problem. I purchased pearl snaps and a snap-setter from SnapSource to use instead of buttons. Also I added one inch to length and one cm to sleeve length; their heights were very close to pattern chart and I wanted to allow a little extra. They fit perfectly!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I just might make one for their friend. It is not a quick and easy blouse but I like the results. Cotton would be a lot easier to sew with all the details and a cheaper satin might be a nightmare! It is a good review of collar stands, sleeve and front plackets, and all the other details that I plan to use on items for myself and haven't done for a long time.
Conclusion:
Well worth the effort as it looked good and granddaughters loved them!
