| Pattern Description:
Fitted, sleeveless top has lined bodice, boat neckline with cowl collar, empire waist with darts, panel seams on lower top, and side seam zipper closure. Pattern Sizing:XS-XL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I don't think my collar looks like the drawing and I added a sleeve. Were the instructions easy to follow? These are typical KwikSew instructions, very clear and thorough
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I was originally drawn to the skirt, which is now a TNT. Now that I've made both the top and skirt, there is nothing I don't like about it. Fabric Used:cotton/lycra stretch poplin. This may have contributed to my issues with the collar. The pattern calls for more drapey fabrics.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: very little alterations were needed. I used a M at the neckline/shoulders andan XL at the side seams. I did my standard petite adjustments. I was surprised to find that I only needed a 1/2in FBA, much smaller than usual. Because I used a stretch woven, I was able to omit the zip. I also added a 3/4 sleeve from another pattern.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I'm not sure I'd sew it again. The collar is really distinctive but the bodice fits perfectly. I've already reviewed the skirt and I think the pattern is worth the price for just the skirt. The top is icing on the cake.
Conclusion:
This top was really easy to put together and fits like a dream. I'm willing to try it again in a softer fabric to see if the collar lies better. The bodice fits perfectly and I'm thinking about trying to change the neckline. | Buy this pattern for $11.49 Add to Bag |

Pattern with more than 5 reviews! << Previous Review Next Review >> | Reader Comments | | TerriSewCrazy | 10/23/09 | Andrea, I love the top! You mentioned that you might like to alter the neckline to make another version of the top and I think you could do it very easily because the top has the same bodice fitting as a beautiful scoop neck dress by Kwik Sew, 2473, and it is an A-line skirt. I bet you could just alter the neckline of this one to be a beautiful scoop neck (without incurring the cost of another pattern), and you could even make it into a dress. I really like the version where a different fabric is used above the empire waist than below - I've had a dress like that before, and it was very flattering. I think you would look great in a scoop-neck, too! | | * * * | | Sweetiebop | 10/23/09 | You look gorgeous, Andrea. | | * * * | | Riesie | 10/23/09 | Oh, I love this on you. The collar is very Kim Novak in Bell, Book & Candle! | | * * * | | Annette1 | 10/24/09 | YES, you should DEFINITELY make this AT LEAST one more time, because it truly does fit like a dream. I really like the addition of the sleeves, too. Are those WING TIPS I see peeking out from under the hem of your pants? Wing tips are my FAVORITE. :o) | | * * * | | Rebecca D | 10/24/09 | You're absolutely right, it fits perfectly and the white is stunning on you. | | * * * | | fryman | 10/24/09 | this is a great top on you. Making another would be great and I look forward to your review, if you do. | | * * * | | Andreahg | 10/24/09 | Thanks, everyone!
Annette, not only are they wingtips, they're wingtip Mary Janes and have a totally practical for everyday 1.5in heel. I'm basing my SWAP on these shoes! | | * * * | | mleclair | 10/24/09 | Andrea, did you add the sleeve from another Kwik Sew pattern or did you draft your own? I've been looking at this pattern, too, and now I think I must have it! | | * * * | | Andreahg | 10/24/09 | The sleeve is from a NL blouse, with a full bicep adjustment. I think any blouse sleeve pattern that you know fits well should work. | | * * * | | MaryLynn in Long Beach | 10/26/09 | Beautiful! | | * * * | |
