| Pattern Description: Men's nightshirt, pajamas, and shorts. I used the nightshirt pattern with short sleeves to make my husband a robe.
Pattern Sizing:S (34-36" chest) to XXL (50-52"). I used size XXL, with some alterations (below).
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Basically.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Easy peasy. The only semi-tricky part is attaching the neckband, and that is easy enough if you just follow the steps in order as outlined.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Kwik Sew patterns are well drafted and the instructions are great. From cutting out to sewing, this robe took about two and a half hours (I do have a serger, so probably a little longer on a regular machine).
Fabric Used: The body of the robe is dark brown cotton interlock (think heavy tee shirt material) and the neckband and trim on the sleeves is quilting-weight cotton in a paisley pattern.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: My DH is a big guy (but not tall), so I added 1" to each side seam (4" total overall), plus I kicked out the CF bottom as much as the fabric width would allow for extra tummy room (about 3" at the hemline). I also straightened the sleeves, rather than leave them tapered, just for comfort. All this extra room was not strictly needed but I wanted it to be nice and roomy and not bind or hang up if he wears it over PJs.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and yes. This is actually the second robe I've made him using this pattern. The first was the same in design but the material was a disaster - he wanted something Dumbledore-ish so I used some Oriental-looking green brocade from Joann's. It started to shred at the seams almost immediately. Looked pretty cool, though, I must say.
Conclusion: My husband likes pull-over things, I think because he doesn't feel so self-conscious about his tummy if he doesn't need to constantly be tugging at a belt or checking buttons, so this pattern was perfect for making him a comfortable robe for around the house.

He kinda looks like Moses parting the Red Sea;-) | | * * * | | dbsewer | 10/27/09 | Well, your guy sure does look happy in this. You did a nice job. How sweet of you to make this for him. Yeah, Passion, he does have the Moses pose, doesn't he? :-) LOL. | | * * * | | Annette1 | 10/28/09 | VERY NICE! This DOES look comfy and yet stylish at the same time. I'm with you, as far as the extra room at the bottom of the sleeves for loungewear. I've got a couple of real nice flannel nightgowns that I got for Christmas presents (which will NEVER wear out), and the first thing I did was cut the elastic out of the cuffs. :o) | | * * * | |
