| Pattern Description: The pattern has a jacket, top, dress and pants. I made the jacket described as "Fitted jacket has single layer collar and labels, fron loops and buttons, slits and long sleeves." It has princess seams front and back. No facings and all seams are double folded each side of the seam before topstitching.
Pattern Sizing: 6-14, 16-22. I made a size 16 at the shoulders grading to 18 at the hips.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. Perfect match
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. All the steps are well expained and illustrated. I like the way the seam allowances are finished. I've never done a one layer collar before and was suprised at how easy it way and how well it sat.
The pattern has the side back piece positioned upside down in the cutting layout. If you have a fabric with a nap or one way design, you'll need an extra 40-50cm of fabric.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I fell in love with this pattern the first time I saw it. The jacket has certainly lived up to my expectation.
Fabric Used: Undyed pure silk noil. The weave is fairly coarse, much like hession, but it is so soft and has a wonderful drape. I'd been eyeing off the fabric for about 8 months and one day I got lucky in that it was on special for $4/m. There was just enough left on the two rolls for the jacket and the pants. I've been trying to decide if I dyed it to a light brown. I think the pants would look better in a darker colour. I've sown it with silk thread just in case I do decide to dye it.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None, other than the pattern grading at the start. If I made it again, I'd raise the bust point and make it 1-2" longer. But I'm really knit-picking.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I'd definitely recoment it.
Conclusion:
This jacket's going to get a lot of wear. I'm really chuffed with the results.
This is part of my entry in the wardrobe contest

Thanks for the helpful review esp the tip about the with nap layout, I don't like putting pattern pieces upside down! | | * * * | | beangirl | 11/6/09 | This is great! I don't know that I would have stopped to look at the pattern in the envelope, but you've changed my mind. I sort of like the natural color, although I know what you mean about darker pants. Very nice! | | * * * | | HawkeMorningStar7 | 11/7/09 | Very nice, love how it co-ordinates with all your wardrobe pieces. Enjoy! | | * * * | | Michelle99 | 11/8/09 | Great jacket, but I should know. I made it too. The fit was great but the finishing at the transition from the bottom of the collar to the front was a little iffy in my book. Sorry to say I didn't review it. This is a style that many people can wear well. | | * * * | |
