| Pattern Description:
Misses shirts. View A has full length sleeves and mock turtleneck. View B has V-neckline with self fabric and long sleeves. View C has crew neckband and short sleeves. View A and C can be made with ribbing or self fabric neckbands.
I chose view A
Pattern Sizing
XS - XL
I made size XL for the shoulders and graded up for the waist and hips
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Not really. See the alterations section.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Like everyone else, I didn't like the way the arms showed draglines.
Fabric Used:
A poly/ spandex made by Confetti Corner that I got on sale at Hancock's.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
I wanted a winter nightgown, so I lengthened it by 11 inches. I wanted a collar that was high enough to shield my neck from drafts but not high enough to choke me, so I used the mock neck but decreased its height by 1/2. It still tried to choke me, so I put a zipper in.
I wanted to try Sandra Betzina's "Fast Fit Rounded Body" alteration instead of doing an FBA. This alteration seems good for a pear or apple shape, as it adds the most width at the hem, as well as adding length at the center front.
To do this alteration, I cut the pattern horizontally straight across 2 inches below the armhole, then cut it vertically from hemline to shoulder. I added about 1 1/2 inches length across the whole garment. I added 6 inches width at the new hemline (about 4 inches at the old hemline), tapering to nothing at the shoulder. I made a 1 1/2 inch bust dart per Sandra's instructions, but decided to change it to gathers at the side seam.
I had read about the problems that other people had with the sleeves showing drag lines. I did not do anything about this on the left sleeve, but tried Marcy Tilton's tip Tip on the right sleeve. This is in effect a forward shoulder adjustment where you also move the dot on the sleeve. It did not make a significant improvement.
The shoulders were too broad for me (this is normal) so I did a narrow shoulder adjustment.
I added 2 inches length to the center front and tapered to nothing at the side seams. (Normal)
If I make this again, I will "petite" the armholes (Sherril's method)
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
The garment wants to creep backward and the neckline just generally doesn't feel "right." I think it is a waste of time to spend more time and effort on this pattern and will move on to a different pattern.
This is disappointing, because I was looking forward to copying all Sherril's neat neckline alterations. Sherril's review one Sherril's review two
Conclusion
I have to agree with all the ones who say this pattern doesn't work for them.
I am still undecided about whether the "rounded body" alteration is preferable to an FBA for me.
front pattern piece this shows the end result. It includes the rounded body alteration, narrow shoulders, petited armhole, added length to the CF. Dart is wrong, it's too big, maybe should be angled more, and I replaced it with gathers, anyway back pattern piece
