My son had seen a jacket from Urban Outfitters that he wanted. I told him I would make one like it if he wished for Christmas. He either has great confidence in my sewing or he's a very obliging son 
The fashion fabric is a wool blend I found at Hancock's that was on sale for $4/yd...Yay! I wanted to put a sherpa or minky type fur for the body lining and a slick quilted fabric for the sleeves so his arms won't get hung up when he puts the jacket on.
I found a lovely thick minky blanket at Sam's for $14 to use for the lining. There's more than enough there so I will have some left over for making rabbit "lovies" I sell. The blanket is 60" x 70", so that's like 2 yds of a wonderfully plush minky.
From the helpful information on the message board (I was discouraged that the main pattern companies really didn't have any kind of men's jacket pattern to alter), I decided to use this Burda pattern and modify it to be similar to the inspiration jacket.
I'm looking forward to the challenge of all the details, especially the pockets that look like patch pockets but are open from the side. |
