| Pattern Description: Simplicity Threads pattern, 3628. I used view C.
Pattern Sizing: I used size 12. I am a 34/36 bust, and the size 12 fit.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? This was my first jacket, and I thought they were very easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Very little hand-sewing is required: only a few inches at the back bottom lining. I liked that the collar on the view I made was designed to stand up, but can be worn down as well. The other views could be made into the military-style jackets that are in many magazines right now. I see that some other sewers had problems with this jacket, but I found it to be very well-drafted and easy to sew.
Fabric Used: A pretty cheap cotton/wool blend from JoAnn's; the lining is much nicer - a thick, brown satin from Paron's in NYC.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: None. Thankfully I had no real fit issues - being a beginner, I would not have been able to alter it if I did. I have since ordered a book on how to alter jackets for future projects. The shoulders could have been taken in a bit, perhaps. The back fits perfectly.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes to both, definitely.
Conclusion: I'm glad that I picked this pattern for a first jacket, as the instructions were clear. The princess seams were easy to sew, and the sleeves went in without a problem (i.e. no excessive ease). I have worn this a few times already. I think it is a very good pattern, even for beginners. More on my blog.
