Pattern Description:
Lined, fitted dress, below mid-knee length has pleated bodice, tucked front, invisible back zipper and center back slit. Pattern Sizing:
(4-6-8-10) and (12-14-16-18) Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
More or less yes. Were the instructions easy to follow?
Although this pattern is rated as average it is quite a time consuming, detailed piece, probably on the upper end of average. Don't let my rating above put you off though, if you are careful and follow the instructions step by step it is perfectly doable. The instructions themselves are good, I followed them exactly (for once!) and the finish inside and out is very nice. Inserting the side panels can be a bit tricky - I posted a few detailed pictures on my blog Here if you get stuck on that part. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I am a bit of a sucker for designer patterns in general and I really liked the style of this one. Fabric Used:
A lightweight wool (I think) from the stash. It has a slight brushed effect with a bit of sheen. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added a hem facing - for me it wasn't quite long enough to wear with the boots I had in mind for this outfit for fall, but I still wanted a substantial hem. I simply cut a straight piece of fabric, stitched and understitched it to the bottom of the skirt before hand sewing it invisibly to the dress. Faced hem
To avoid any gaping of the front bodice I had to wrap the pieces a little tighter so my front pleats have mostly disappeared into the side front seam. Not an intentional design change just a byproduct of fitting as I go! Bodice close up Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'm not sure if I will sew it again simply because it's always fun to try new patterns, but I'll hang onto the pattern, you never know, it's a pretty classic design. I do recommend it. Conclusion:
Very well drafted dress pattern, a little above average I would say, but with good instructions and a bit of patience you can do it!

Pattern with more than 5 reviews! << Previous Review Next Review >> | Reader Comments | | petro | 11/6/09 | That's very stylish, and looks better on you than in the vogue pattern photo. I like the tucks in the bodice and skirt top, and the cap sleeve. | | * * * | | MaryDB | 11/6/09 | Beautiful dress I've hesitated to tackle because it looked difficult. You've done a great job - turned out wonderfully. Looks terrific on you, thanks for the review. | | * * * | | yorkshire lass | 11/6/09 | Very stylish and a wonderful fit. Congrats on a job well done : ) | | * * * | | Beek | 11/6/09 | Very lovely dress. I have this pattern in my stash so I greatly appreciate your review. I, too, am a sucker for the Vogue Designer Patterns. I buy them up and, sometimes, I don't sew them for years, but they always seem to hold their "style" value. This gorgeous dress that you made is an example. | | * * * | | Erica B. | 11/6/09 | Fabulous! I've been waiting on a review this dress and I'm so glad you made since we have similar taste! You look great! I'm going to work on this over the weekend! | | * * * | | elainemay | 11/6/09 | Oh yay! I'm glad someone finally did a review of this one! It looks great on you and everything looks so neatly done. The neckline on yours looks a little less open, and the cap sleeve a little wider (longer?) than I was expecting from the picture. Was this the result of changes you made, or is this just how the draft is? | | * * * | | no7262 | 11/6/09 | IT's beautifull! Nora :) | | * * * | | DorothyK | 11/6/09 | Very pretty. Well done.
