Pattern Description: A high-fashion blend of structured shape and slouchy simplicity with this stunning bag, designed for real or faux supple suede or leather, but also fabulous in firm fabrics like felt, denim, twill or even silk dupioni. Over-sized Bag is fully lined with interior zippered pocket, plus cell-phone and smaller pocket. Front & back of Bag are the same, featuring bellows pockets with flaps and hook & loop closure, and applied self-fabric handles. Bag has optional purse feet and unfolds to reveal the zippered opening. This is a stunning Bag...nicely roomy and perfect for everyday use, and a really showstopping style. Wear this graphic beauty with simple draped pieces for a fearlessly modern look, or use this clean silhouette to toughen up your more feminine styles.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it did...although I was a little surprised at just how big it is...despite the dimensions printed right on it. This is a big bag...especially when it's unfolded. The two drawings where the handles are apart is accurate, BUT, the sides of my bag aren't up like that...mine are more flat. flat sides

This kind of shows the height of the bag, and the length if it's unfolded and open. You can kind of see what I mean here...hanging from doorknob

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they were. I did have a question on how to put in the zipper. I posted on the boards and emailed Trudy. I got a very quick response, but in the meantime, I realized that I was thinking about it entirely wrong. (You attach the zipper to the bag, NOT the zipper facing.) I don't know why I was confused about that. The sides did come together at a rise, but I decided to just go with it. It worked out fine in the end.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? This was a fun pattern to put together. It wasn't really hard, but I'm not a huge bag person, so I did find it a little challenging. I probably spent more time lining up the pockets with the handles as I did anything else. Putting in the zipper was fairly easy in comparison.

I LOVE how this bag looks...
Bag from the pocket angle
Bag from front

I don't like how big it is...well, sort of. If I'm looking for something in the bag, it's awkward b/c the bag is really too big to open easily in my lap. I need a table or something where I can lay the bag out. I'm contemplating sewing a seam right down the center of the bag (right where it folds when carrying it), and essentially making it two bags in one. I used a separating zipper with two zipper pulls so this would be really easy to do. I'm just not sure I'm ready to commit. I'll give it a couple more days.

Fabric Used: Some stuff from my stash. I believe this is some of my oldest material...I bought it for pants, but then could just never see myself wearing it as pants. I did interface the entire bag. I wish I would have interfaced the pockets completely, but I didn't think about it. For the lining, I used some faux dupioni from my walmart that I bought ALOT of right when they stopped carrying fabric. It actually makes a very nice lining. Lining peeking out

This pattern is WIDE, and I had the one side of the bag all wonky because I decided to spare my back and cut on the table rather than the floor. While cutting the one part, apparently the fabric slid. I had to do an inpromptu dart and some quick fix it sewing to make it all work. In the end...I don't think anyone would ever guess that one part of the bag was off by at least two inches. Moral of the story...cut on a really wide table or the floor. It's cut single layer too. If I was doing it again, I'd trace all the pieces and trace those again that I have to cut out multiple times.

I used a two way separating zipper and HIGHLY recommend that...simply b/c the bag is big and it gives you the option of sewing it in half. I found the zipper at Joanns...It was 26 inches long, and labeled as a parka zipper I believe.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:None

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?Yes...in fact, I'm contemplating giving this one to my sister and making myself another one. This one took awhile to do, but really, I think most of that was due to my inexperience in sewing bags. I think the second one would go ALOT faster.

Conclusion: This is a really cute bag, and was surprisingly easy to put together. I'm loving it and have even had alot of compliments on it already!

Meredith P 11/8/09Very helpful review. It turned out really nice, but that is a really big bag, isn't it. More of an overnight bag...

Lee Ann Hawkins 11/8/09thank you for reviewing this! I'm thinking it would make a stylish carry-on bag for airplane travel. Lots of stuff could fit in it and you could squish it under the seat.

SewSuElle 11/17/09Thanks for this review! I've been wanting to make this bag, but wasn't sure I wanted to buy yet another bag pattern. I'll definitely buy this one. The size is great for me since I have twins still in diapers. Diapers and butt wipes tend to take up lots of space! And I refuse to carry a "diaper bag"!!!
