Pattern Description: One piece swim dress with modesty skirt, tied bust and full brief
Pattern Sizing: I made a large
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Somewhat, I made some major alterations though.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I struggled with the instructions, especially with the lining instructions. I find that kwik sew insructions can be a little hit and miss... I ended up ignoring the instructions half way through and just using my best judgement with finishing it off.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked that it had the modety skirt and the fact that it had straps, rather than a halterneck which usually hutrs my neck with extended wear. I didn't like how full the skirt was though, it was very unflattering on my body, so I changed it.
Fabric Used: A shiny gold nylon lycra. The fabric was chosen as I saw a pic of Marilyn Munroe in a gold swom dress and wanted something similar. The fabric looks awesome on and it's quite light. It's not really suitable for lots of swimming, more as a looking-glam-whilst-lounging-by-the-pool kind of fabric!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I took in the flaired panels in the skirt as they were a bit blousy and made me look like I was wearing a babydoll instead of swimwear. With a tighter fit, the skirt hung way too low so I used some elastic to rouche the panels, which ended up looking amazing and giving the dress that bit of zing that it really needed.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would sew it again but I wouldn't follow all the instructions and I would make the same modifications again as well. If the swim dress it your style then I would recommend it as is, however if you want to make it look like mine I would say that you would need to be good at improvising!
Conclusion: I am so happy with how this piece came out. I get so many compliments wearing it-my father in law told me to quit teaching and be a fashion designer when he saw me in it for the first time! (But most of the credid goes to kwik sew on this one!). It is a bit tricky to do though and i got so frustrated with it I did it in two seperate sessions weeks apart!
