Your skirt turned out beautifully. I think you made it to ride higher at the waist, which may account for some of the extra fabric. The pattern seems to sit on the hips a bit more than your picture shows. I've just made this skirt myself, and I found that the fitting ease allowed me to play with where the yoke sits. This is an advantage if you like to have it sit higher.
