forgot to mention that I like the covered buttons. You can see them in the pic on the handle if you look closely. I haven't done those before, and was happy to find out how easy they are....

Ah, I just assumed you had used purchased buttons--they look cute! I like the handbag, too, but I think with all the fiddly stuff you dealt with I probably would not try to sew it. Good review!

I am so glad to find this site! I have sewn many bag patterns before but none of the smiplicity/mccall/vogue/butterick variety. Moslty Amy Butler and Anna Maria Horner...anyway this bag has been giving me fits! I have been working on it since April because I have to work a little, get frustrated, and finally leave the room before I set the little beast on fire :)...but reading all the tips on here has been great. Thanks for sharing your experience! The bag looks great too!
