I'm happy with 3x waist (which I think was a reddawn recommendation) on the girls I'm sewing for, but I suspect that one might want more than that if one's hip to waist ratio were rather larger than the nearly 1:1 ratio these girls have. For myself (26in waist, 37in hip), I like a minimum of about 2 yards of fabric around, and often I'll do 90inches, if I'm sewing 45in fabric, since I hate throwing anything out. 4/15/10 8:12 PM
