You got a great fit in this dress! I wonder if there was a bit more ease in the pattern than you expected as they wouldn't have tended to use fabrics with stretch in them at the time? A lovely frock!

This is a beautiful dress, the fabric, the classic shape and it fits superbly. I do think shifts in the 60s had a lot of room in them, not as fitted as we prefer today.
