I too had problems with this and tried twice. Would love to learn how to sew it correctly since this is a wonderful collared shirt. Please let me know the solution.

Here are some instruction from Cabinbaby's blog which come from the Timmel website. It's been over 30 years since I took a class in t-shirt modifications, but I remember that it really wasn't hard to make a placket opening -- just a little confusing until you get the hang of it.
