I love the fit and silhouette of these pants/shorts/capris so much that I have made numerous versions now. The only thing I didn't love about this pattern was the front pockets. They were neat looking, but the opening is so high up on the hip that it took some effort to get my hands into them.
So, this time I decided to replace the pockets with those from a favorite pair of RTW shorts. Now they are exactly what I want. This version was in cotton ripstop (love); I think I'll make a denim pair next.

Basic fly-front shorts. The front pockets have an interesting cut.
This pattern actually comes in three lengths: hot pants, bermudas, and capris.
36-44. I graded these to a 34.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, they're good, as usual with Otto.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
One thing I especially liked was that I've already made the capri pants from this version, so all I had to do was shorten the pattern. It's nice to get so much mileage from a pattern. Link to capri pants review.
I like these because they're a good basic and have an easy fit. It's nice to have a simple pattern to turn to when you want something quick.
Tight weave cotton fabric. I can't figure out what it is.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I eked this pattern out of scraps from a pair of pants; otherwise I would have lengthened them because I was concerned they'd be extremely short. They are called "hot pants" after all. Instead of lengthening them, I used a hem facing, so they ended up about 2 inches longer than intended. However, I don't think they would have been obscenely short even if I had just let them be.

Capri pants version here.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'll probably sew these up again in varying lengths and fabrics.
Nice basic shorts with a good fit.
