Love the fabric -- can't tell if the mottled effect is from plushness or if it's in the coloring itself, but absolutely lovely. And what you say about zippers is some really valuable advice I hope I can remember when hoodie sewing time rolls around for me: "Turns out, one is supposed to use a light weight zip for fleece but I didn't know that at the time. "

The mottled effect *is* the colouring of the fabric. It's got patches of sort-of camouflage green!

It all looks so well done, and I never noticed any issues with the zipper at all. Enjoy your hoodie, it looks wonderful and comfy.
