Will jump in here because you are a beginner. This crotch depth issue needs to be considered on any pants you make whether jammies or dress pants or jeans. If it is for you, sit on a flat surface like a table. Measure straight down from your waist to the table. That should be the measurement from the waist indicator on the pants to the crotch line. I know I have a very short rise and automatically take it up at least an inch. On something like jammies, you can always cut some off the top and shorten it that way in a pinch, but can't always do that with a more tailored style.
