I always use LH's method for waist elastic, but only on the kids' clothes since I only wear fitted waists :) Cute skirt - good luck on your trip. Do they have sewing machines to use there?

I made this skirt years ago and love the drape of the flounce. It is just enough to add interest the skirt without being too flouncy. I rarely wear a skirt and this is the one I wear the most. Try a drapy fabric or a ponte knit. I added a zipper and eliminated some of the bulk at the hips.
