your dress look real nice, good idea making the pattern into a dress. About your serger or any serger going through many layers, you may be asking too much, it can break the upper looper arm and throw the timing off besides breaking the needles. Grading the seams by hand then serging beside the blade helps it along. Industial sergers have more piercing power and they can go through many layers.
