Your alterations to provide fit and style details resulted in a very special dress, albeit a casual one. Very nice indeed! Re pique: I think of it as a cotton with ribbed weave which makes for summer wear that keeps its shape.

That dress looks great on you. Love it in denim. I'd guess that piquet is the same as pique. A lot of men's polo shirts are made from pique fabric. IHere's a definition I found when I Googled pique. A knitting method that creates a fine textured surface that appears similar to a birdsnest or waffle weave.
