Lakaribane, the dress is fitted above the waist and looser below. It could potentially work as a maxi if lengthened, which shouldn't be hard to do at all.

Very cute! How do you think the dress would look without the ties? I'm inspired by the Tank Maxi Dress discussion on the boards to use this pattern, lengthened to make a knit maxi dress.
