Very nice job on this maxi dress for your friend, what a great gift! I just bought this pattern for a maxi dress, so thanks for your great tips. I think I will self line the bodice as suggested, and possibly try to incorporate bra cups into it as well for that extra support and shape. I love your fabric choice and placement of the fabric pieces.
