I think your dress is cute. Smart to take out fabric at bust. Maybe it is something in the wearing and not how it actually looks, cause yours is really cute. My daughter had me make this dress for her last summer, and she feels the same as you. It is now sitting in my sewing room to become a skirt as she loves the fabric.
