I think you ended up with a cute top in the end though! As Sew2006 said defo go by the 'finished garment measurements' on the front pattern piece for the best fit:)

I like your top and I think it looks great on you. It's easy for a begginer sewer to get misslead by the numbers on the back of the envelopewhen choosing a size. I like to compare my measurements to the set of measurements printed on the front pattern piece. This gives the closest representation of the finished garment and avoids most suprises. Fabric weight /designers ease preference also affects the fit. I just finished doing pattern alterations, cut, basted and the top is way too big. Great save on your project, looks like the top fits well.
