It's really pretty - I like the print - and I certainly can't see any bagginess. I wonder if redistributing the gathers could help?

I think it looks awesome on you and I can't see the issues you describe at all thanks to the print. That said, I had the same fear about this pattern from looking at the modeled photo, which has kept me from making it...
