I too made a similar jacket from McCalls and was not happy with the lining and shoulder pad directions. I did the same thing with the collar--rolled it over to make a mock lapel. Guess us sewers think alike.....

Good job modifying the pattern. You ended up with a nice looking jacket. Ditto on the shoulder pad comments.

I like the lapels, actually made this jacket more attractive. I don't follow the instructions for linings from the patterns. Too much hand sewing when more can be done with the machine. I agree with you, shoulder pads in lined jackets should not show.

I really like the way your lapels turned out -- they look more interesting than the pattern neckline. I'm amazed the instructions would have the shoulder pads showing on a lined jacket!
