Pattern Description: Lined formal dress with shaped ruffled hem. Laced left panel
Pattern Sizing: 10-12-14
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Absolutely, yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very clear and well illustrated.
Fabric Used: I used polyester chiffon in cerise pink and a poly satin for the lining
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: As suggested by previous reviewers, I didnt bother with the foundation or the boning on the sleeves. I used elastic here.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Definitely
Conclusion: I loved making this dress! I have made it for a wedding we are going to in October so I haven't worn it yet. I totally agree that it is to an advanced level but after making a wedding coat for my own wedding (without a proper pattern) this seemed a piece of cake. It takes time and patience (don't expect to finish it in a day!) but its worth every minute. I made a size 12 and found it came up a little big. I had to take it in on the waist and hips. There is a lot of marking and tacking but again its worth the time to get it right.
It says in the instructions not to zigzag chiffon but I did! Their way of finishing off the ruffled seams did not work for me at all. It was too bulky. I have a bernina sewing machine and on a zigzag I used a number 5 width and a number 1 length stitch and it worked perfectly. I will try to add a photo.
I also didn't bother with any of the foundation on the recommendations of other reviewers and its perfect without. This dress does not need a foundation. Not in the size I made it anyway. I also used elastic in the shoulders rather than boning. Also as stated by other reviewers the shoulders came up far too big, I would recommend taking an inch or so off the front and back shoulder seams.
This is a beautiful dress to make. Just take your time and enjoy!
