Pattern Description:

Pattern Sizing:

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes, other than a few slight modifications that I had purposefully made.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes. I read them a few times and then didn't use them again.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I really like the gathering at the shoulder, the kimono cap sleeves, and the swingy skirt. I'm a sucker for structured knit dresses!

Fabric Used:

A cotton-Lyrca polka dot interlock knit and matching red interlock knit I got at Hancock's. It was bought specifically for this project.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I made a whole bunch of alterations to the bodice. In the back, I eliminated the crossover and instead just had the two sides meet in a midback seam. I also raised the "v" of the back about 1.5 inches. In the front, I did a FBA by adding 1 inch to the width and 2 inches to the length of the pattern. I also added a little extra gathering at the shoulder. I also raised the neckline "v" and extended the surplice pieces so that they wrapped more fully around the bust.

I also stabilized the shoulders and the pockets with scraps of fusible tricot. I used a fusible tricot on the knit instead of just a piece of tricot fabric.

I used a conventional machine and used a zigzag stitch. Instead of turning the edges like the pattern said, I just folded the seam allowance under and zigzagged the edge into place.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes! I would like to try out some of the other styles and fix the few nit picky fit issues. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with at least basic sew skills but caution them about the out-of-the-envelope bodice fit/risque-ness. I'd also like to try this in a lighter weight knit like a jersey.

Conclusion:

This is a great versatile summer dress pattern. Fairly easy to sew and fit and you could use lots of different kinds of knits to get different looks from just one of the patterns!
