Pattern Description:
The pattern is for a long cloak, corset-style bodice, and long skirt. I made the coat.
Pattern Sizing:
Standard Simplicity multi-sizing 6 - 12
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes - except for the minor alterations I made.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. There are many of them, and they must be carefully followed, but the pieces went well together and each step was clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the basic shape of the jacket. There are many variations one could do w/ just a little tweaking - for example, do the wings but not the sleeves for a nice vest; make it short by rounding off the tail; make it in leather w/ no sleeves. It has a real period feel to it and would make good period jackets, again with just a little tweaking.
Fabric Used:
I used a poly brocade for the outer shell, and used gold lame covered with a black mesh (to tone down the lamee's brightness. I am currently looking for an app to prevent me from ever buying poly brocade again.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I'm not as young as some people making this pattern (ahem!), so I did alter the front panel of the jacket. I extended the front up a few inches, and extended the front to make a double-breasted buttoning in the practice jacket. I also eliminated the ruffle on the sleeve to allow more versatility with wrist warmers - which I love. I think in future I would try losing the ruffle around the neck, too, and doing a stand-up collar. Another thing I would do is make a different sleeve - one with a snugger fit and a curved elbow. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes ... to both. I'm really tempted to make a suede version w/ no sleeves.

The main thing w/ this pattern is to go step by step, take your time, and have fun with the result! |

LOL, I need that polyester brocade app too. Sorry it was a pain to work with but it looks great. Nice job with a complicated pattern.
