Pattern Description: Slip on, cowl neck tops with sleeve and length variations.
Pattern Sizing:8, 10, 12. I cut a 12 according to my measurements and I'd purchase a RTW size 6 or small in this I would think.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, accecpt for the simple pattern changes I made. I cut view B, the sleeveless cowl neck tunic and self sash.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, for the most part. The attachement of the shoulders and armhole area are a bit difficult, but with some careful thought, maybe some basting stitches, and practice with this type of neckline, it can be done fairly easily. I made this dress in one evening with cutting and sewing, so it was not too bad.
Another part that can be challenging is cutting this on the bias. Getting the grain correct and fitting the pattern on my super slippery silk charmeuse fabric was a pain in the butt, but I got through it with only two major pattern pieces, a facing piece and the sash to have to suffer through.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I LOVE cowl and drape necklines! They are so flattering! I like the simple design as well-you can really do a lot with it with fabric, color and general wearability.
Fabric Used: A lovely silk charmeuse in a blue, brown and black print from Mill End fabrics in Milwakee, OR (my favorite store!).
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I lengthened the pattern 14" to make into a dress and sewed up the side slits.
One view of dress
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely! I want some tops in this style and have been wanting to cut this pattern for a while now.
I would highly recommend it, but it can be challenging at times, so a super beginner may be lost and frustrated with this type of pattern to sew, but with time, patience and practice, it is totally do-able.
Conclusion: I am in love with this dress and can't wait to wear it! I think I wear it with a cardigan, hosiery and heels to work, and just alone with a stiletto and some pretty jewelry for date night ;)
