Pattern Description:
Pattern is for various styles of panties, bras, camisole and slip. This review is for version C for lace panties.
Pattern Sizing:
Pattern has size x-small, small, medium and large. I made a size medium. In RTW I wear a small or medium.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It would have looked like the drawing if I used the skimpy 4" lace that the pattern calls for. For adequate backside coverage, I used 6" or wider lace trims.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were pretty easy to follow. I really didn't need the instructions. There are only 4 seams.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I bought this pattern because it had a pattern for lace trim panties. Other patterns that I had seen only had the standard panties; the ones using knit fabric and elastic in the waist and leg openings. The lace trim is super easy and fast. You don't have to fuss with elastic.
Fabric Used:
My first pair I made from a dark blue lace trim from SAS fabrics in Hawthorne. They were so easy and super comfortable to wear. These don't cut into my legs like my RTW panties do. I was definitely hooked. So I hit up various stores in the LA garment district for a great variety of lace trims. They were $1-$2.50/yard. Each panty used 1.5-2 yards depending on the repeat of the lace, the mirroring of the lace edges and the width. For the lining I used matching knit fabric scraps from past projects.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The major alternations that I did had to do with using a 6" or wider lace trim instead of the 4" in the pattern. The wider lace meant that I didn't need as long and skinny of a crotch piece in the back. That piece was seriously skinny at the end that connects to the back piece, in a very unflattering way. 6" wasn't enough back coverage for me. None of the local shops has 8-9" lace trim in reasonable prices so went with beauturbo's suggestion and pieced more lace to the back. I ended up with kind of a wedge shape addition. If you look at the pic you can see the original back would have been a v-shape. Back wedge piece Other PRers suggested some websites with wider lace if anyone is interested.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
You can probably tell my the stack of panties that I've already made that I really like these. I won't be going back to those cheap quality, gives-me-a-wedgie, cuts-into-my-legs Victoria Secrets panties ever again. I would recommend these for some people. There are not for people looking for supportive or slimming panties.
Conclusion:
How pretty are these?! I love them all. I even bought extra lace so I can make matching bras to go with them. I never thought I'd be this happy and excited about panties.
