Pattern Description:
Simplicity 1796 - a pullover dress with lightly elasticated waist and cross over front detail. Pattern Sizing:
Available in sizes10-18, I've made up size 16 with a FBA Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It looked similar to the line drawing. The Plus sized photo on the envelope is rather unflattering so it definitely put me off the other bodice variation. I might come round to it in time though... Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. I think I followed the instructions, though I am notorious for reading them, and then ignoring them. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It was simple and satisfying sewing project. I had read the warnings about the skirt portion being too straight and I adjusted accordingly.
The arm holes are detailed with bias tape to the interior. This was tricky to ease into the curve and I would choose to draft a facing if I make the sleeveless style again. Fabric Used:
I used a lightweight polyester crepe I had purchased over 10 years ago. This was the practice run for some silk georgette. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I have carried out a FBA. While the pattern claims to have a lot of ease, I'm pleased I took the time to make this adjustment.
I have also flared the skirt pieces and added a little length. Without these modifications, this would be better suited to wearing over leggings rather than as a stand alone dress. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes Conclusion:
I would recommend this pattern as a quick and simple project. It would be great for showcasing more glamorous statement fabrics like the silk georgette if have ready and waiting.
