| Pattern Description:
MISSES' TUNIC, DRESS AND PANTS: Pullover tunic or dress has front extending into back collar, fitted, front pleated bodice, raised waist, tie ends, two-piece sleeves with barrel cuffs, and stitched hem. Fitted, straight-legged pants (below waist) have elastic waist. I made the dress only but you can see what you get for your money with pattern - tunic, dress and trousers! Pattern Sizing:
8-16. I cut the 14 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes very much so Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, very straightforward and simple. Very little hand sewing and the pattern is rated as Very Easy Vogue.
Only one place to watch out for and that's the sleeve front joining to the back and the fold-over collar. Using a stretch knit you should be able to "pull' your fabric into position to avoid a small hole. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked everything: the style of the dress, the ease of making and the beauty of wearing.
The back sleeve is part of the back piece and there is no easing of sleeve heads. Fabric Used:
Ah, this is where is gets a little difficult. My fabric was given to me by my mother who has had it in her attic for at least 35yrs! I'm guessing it is some kind of polyester knit. A very slight stretch - nowhere near as much as the envelope suggests - but I can still pull this on and off without too much bother. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I shortened the sleeves by the cuff length. When trying on without the cuffs the sleeves reached my wrists, so I cut this off and attached the cuffs. Now the sleeves with cuff, sit comfortably at my wrist. I would have liked another couple of inches on the length too but fabric was in rather short supply.
The waist ties are folded, sewed and turned - usual stuff. But I had to patch the left over fabric together to get close to the length and only had enough to make single sided ties. These I hemmed with a narrow hem and trimmed close to the stitching. The fabric doesn't fray so this method works. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I am recommending this to you all - whatever your age or shape! and yes, I will be sewing this again and again. Conclusion:
First time wearing this I was complimented by strangers - which is always good for one's self-esteem and morale. Apart from that, it is extremely 'wearable' - it looks sophisticated but is so easy to make. It is comfortable and timeless. Because it is a dress it is classier than a suit or skirt and top. Love this dress and the post on your blog. At least you were sober minded enough to remember the 70's, some of my memories are a bit faded, but that polyester fabric from then will never fade, lol.
