Pattern Description: Easy sun dress with princess seams and 4 neckline variations.
Pattern Sizing: Size A (8-18)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did except that I used View C bodice front and View A bodice back.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved the simplicity of this pattern.
Fabric Used: I used a cotton sateen with 3% spandex. I purchased this from Bargain Box fabrics and it was very expensive at $20 per metre. Although it was very good quality and was lovely to sew.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: This is the first thing I have made where I have purposely made a muslin. I was determined to get a good fitting bodice so I made up a bodice from some other cotton sateen I left over from Click here First I cut a size 14 based on the finished garment measurements. This was way too big. I pinched out 4 cm from the centre front tapering to the waist, and 8 cm from the centre back, tapering to the waist. I also pinched out 2cm from the top of the front princess seams, tapering to the first notch. I decided that this was distorting the original pattern too much, so I made another muslin in a size 12. I pinched out 2cm from the centre front and I couldn't get the back to stop gaping so I changed to the V neck back in view A. I only had to pinch out 2cm from the centre back to get it to sit right. I also pinched out 2cm from the top of each front princess seam tapering to the first notch. I also lengthened the bodice by 3cm. After making the alterations to the pattern pieces, I felt much more confident cutting into the expensive fabric. I also inserted an invisible zip. As you can see, I am very new to pattern alteration. What little knowledge I have, I have learned from pattern review. Can anyone recommend a good pattern alteration book for newbies? I agonised over pattern placement on the fabric with this large floral print. I'm not 100% happy with the result but it's the best I could do with limited fabric.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I am very pleased with the end result. I plan to wear this to a wedding next weekend. I may sew this one again, especially now that I have the fit worked out. I would recommend this pattern especially to beginners.
Conclusion: This pattern is a winner and the good quality cotton sateen was a pleasure to sew. I am glad I spent the extra time and effort to get the fit right. I will be doing more of this in the future, for sure. More pictures Click here

She recommends selecting the bodice size based on your shoulders (since they're harder to adjust for) and then altering for other body parts. I can't help but wonder since you pinched out so much, how a 10 would fit in the shoulders tapering to a 12 at the waist (possibly with a FBA)? 12/1/12 10:16 AM

I have a few fitting books, but have found "The Complete Photo Guide to Perfect Fitting" by Sarah Veblen an absolute revelation when it comes to getting the fit right. I recommend it highly 12/2/12 4:24 AM

One of my favorite books is the Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing - it has great pictures of any kind of tailoring/alteration you may want to do as well as full explanation of things that may not make sense when sewing. If you want the actual tailoring section look for one that was printed in the 1970's to about 1982. At some point in the 80's they removed the actual Tailoring section of the book :( 4/14/13 4:04 PM
