Pattern Description:
Lined coat with stand up collar, in seam pockets and pleats. Fan pleats are on the right front and sleeve heads. Regular pleats give texture to the belt band at the back. There is no shoulder pads.
Pattern Sizing:
34-44 (French sizes = 4-14 US sizes)
There is no measurements / size chart.
So I measured the lining pattern pieces and compared those to a coat I have. Then I did a quick muslin of the lining to be sure I had the right size.
I sew a size 40.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes ! Except for the color blocking.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Well the instructions are not illustrated (and in French only) so I would not recommend it to a beginner or as a first coat ! But the instructions are accurate. I can always help for a translation !
I'll be making a tutorial for the pleat on this coat on my blog.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Well the pleats of course, I love ! The bulk they produce in the seams not so much. My steaming iron got a good workout ;)
Fabric Used:
-Synthetic "wool like" fibre for the outer fabric in red and dark grey.
-Printed cotton “The woman spring bouquet” by Melissa Crowley for Robert Kaufman to line the main part.
White satin to line the sleeves.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Well none !
I wanted to add front facings but after testing buttonholes, my machine wouldn't manage the 4 layers of outer fabric... So I just sew the coat as the pattern came.
I added interfacing to one of the collar pieces.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will sew it again, only not for me ! I'll make it for my DD (8) as the pattern also exist in a child version.
Conclusion:
I love, love this coat. The pleats really make this a unique design.
As I said : not for beginners although the coat in itself isn't difficult to make, the lack of illustration will definitely make it harder for beginners (especially since it's in French only ;) )!
It's really easy to make this coat pattern your own just by mixing different fabrics, prints with solids, etc...
Some of you helped me pick a color block design through the forum (I couldn't choose between the last 4 I selected), thanks again for that !

Also the pleat tutorial is already up on my French blog, I'll translate it and add it to my English blog next week. 12/7/12 10:46 AM
