Pattern Description: Chado Ralph Rucci Misses Dress with belt
Pattern Sizing:I made a size 14. I would say it is true to size but the wrap style is forgiving enough to go up or down a size.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?the directions were a little confusing and steps seemed to be missing. The diagrams were not very clear. I actually sewed pieces on upside down, backwards... This was my first time using a vogue pattern or making something with gussets so I was easily confused. With patience and perseverance I was able to figure things out eventually.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? This dress takes a lot of time and patience to create. There is top stitching evereywhere, angled darts, and full lining. I would say all that extra effort is worth it. There are sewists out there that swear off patterns and prefer to wing it. That is fine, but you could not wing a dress like this. This dress is a sculptural work of art.
Fabric Used:I used a red cotton sateen for the shell, a white and blue dot for the facings, and a red plaid for the linings.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:I eliminated the bottom band because other reviewers complained of the dress being a tad long and I ran short on my fabric. I wish I hadn't because it is a bit short for my comfort. I also added an extra snap in the neck line to keep it from gaping open. I always have that issue with wrap styled tops.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?Yes i would reccommend this pattern to someone with a little experience and patience. I plan to sew this again. I would not shortened the length but I would shorten the sleeves. I would love to make a colorblocked version of this. I have another Chado Ralph Rucci pattern in my stash I plan to tackle next.
Conclusion: I've wanted this dress since the pattern first came out and I am glad that I worked up the nerve to make it. I get tons of compliments whenever I wear it. Vogue, Strike a Pose The back My sewing "helper"
