Pattern Description: Misses Coat
Pattern Sizing: 14-22
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so. The Collar
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy, however, I had the dardest time with the two piece sleeve! But it was my fabric, not the pattern at issue.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved the stand up collar and the yoke.
Fabric Used: I used a coating wool. This fabric was a nightmare to work with. I have worked with fabric that frays, but when you touched this fabric, you would lose a whole three inches! I rarely think about serging or finishing seams when the item will be lined, but it was a must for this fabric. But, even when I serged the ends, this fabric had a mind of his own. But I did finish the seams because this is what they looked like with just basic handling. Cool Runnings
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did lengthen the sleeves.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Its such a unique look that I'm not sure I would make it again but I absolutely LOVE this coat.
Conclusion: I love this coat. I have started a little tradition of making a coat each year for my birthday. Coat#1
This is year #2. I LOVED the hooded swing coat last year, but I think I like this one even better.
When I saw the pattern in Vogue I knew I had to have it. And I wanted the houndstooth fabric. One day while in Hancocks, I was lamenting not being able to find the fabric. One of the employees at the store knows me and said they had the fabric in back. She went to the back and came back with this wonderful fabric! The print of my pattern is a tad bit smaller than the one used by Vogue, but I love it even more! For my birthday last year I made a wrap dress in houndstooth because I was inspired by the Ferragamo 2012 line. I think I have enough houndstooth now - maybe! LOL Houndstooth
And no, I won't wear the two together, although I am tempted!

Beautiful. Great job at matching up the pattern.

Great coat! Worth the effort dealing with fraying fabric.

Very nice. The fraying - did that cause you to resort to chocolate? whiskey? Love the coat. Well done and happy birthday!

I say, "Go for it!" Wear your houndstooth dress and coat with a brilliantly coloured belt and shoes--bright red, maybe, or cobalt blue? Love the coat!

Great result. My version is still a toile/muslin, languishing on the dress form with an excess of fabric in the upper side back...that won't be addressed this side of Christmas (sigh). Really pleased to see you don't appear to have had those kind of fitting problems. Enjoy your lovely bithday coat.

Thank you Ladies! I love PR so much. It's so encouraging to hear comments from others and to be encouraged when things don't always work out (as they often do). To "a life in stitches", I did have some fit issues. Actually in looking at another review I think the coat should have been a bit looser in fit. But because it seemed to swallow me at the first fit, I decided to size it down a bit in the arms and shoulder area. It just looked better on me that way.

Judy Mac - you and I think alike! My daughter said not to wear it together, but I think it's kinda hot! and I have a perfect pair of red pumps! I think I have earned the right to stand out in the crowd! I'm going to do it! LOL!

Such pretty pieces. I'm not sure if they will take being worn together, but what ever elevates your fun level and doesn't hurt anyone, go for it. great coat.
