Pattern Description: semi-fitted dress - um that is it ! I would describe this dress as a button front dress with slim fitting bodice, full semi-circle skirt with collar and sleeve variations. It also has inseam pockets included.
Pattern Sizing:came in sizes 34 to 46 or sizes 8 to 20.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Almost but I made a couple of small changes as described below.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are adequate . I do think other pattern companies seem to have more diagrams and detailed instructions. However compared to the burda magazines the instructions are easier to understand and more detailed .
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? My daughter chose this dress pattern ( as the dress is for her ) . She was inspired by the dress Katniss wore in The Hunger Games at the Reaping. I personally do not think it is anything like that dress but she was happy and that is the main thing.
Fabric Used:A medium blue with pink spots cotton voile from Spotlight - I think we got 25% off which was a bonus because this dress takes four metres of fabric .
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I shortened the dress after completion by about 12 cms or three inches at my daughters request. I also did not add the external fabric casing for the fabric and elastic waist tie . I made a channel using the waist / bodice seam and inserted elastic into this . I think this looks neater but gives the same gathered effect at the waist. My daughter will wear a belt over the gathered waist. I lined the back yoke piece as well .
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I might sew this again but this pattern takes alot of fabric and I have other button front dresses that use only two metres. If you like very full skirted button front dresses then I would recommend this pattern because Burda patterns do seem to be drafted well .
Conclusion: My daughter loves her new dress and wore it on her birthday - she chose the fabric and pattern so she got exactly what she wanted so I am happy too. As mentioned above the dress takes alot of fabric and you do need the full four metres. I cut out the skirt sections last and almost did not have enough fabric so if you sew this please cut out the skirt pieces first .
Very pretty dress with lots of sweet details.
