I wrote more about selecting this pattern as opposed to others on my blog.
Pattern Description:
Long tunic top and western-yolked blouse. I made view B, the Western shirt.
Pattern Sizing:
S-XL, I made XL and it fits quite loose.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Kwik Sew's line drawing strangely omits the back yolk, I only realized it had one thanks to the first review of this shirt on this website.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very much so, although since it was my first time using Kwik Sew, I fudged the cutting layout? Somehow I ended up cutting four separate collar pieces instead of one front and one back. I thought I was supposed to do that because it didn't show it being cut on the fold. Also, once I had the first collar made up, the stand was much too small/short for the neckline. My neckline may have stretched because they don't have you staystitch it. Or it may also be possible that there's a pattern error and the collar stand doesn't fit the plus-size XL that I made. I'll staystitch next time and hopefully that'll do it. I had to slash and spread a new longer collar.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The western yolk, and even without that, it's a nice, basic blouse.
Fabric Used:
This was my test run for a plaid flannel version, so I chose another flannel from my stash, which was pajama fabric. So my top looks like a pajama top.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None, but next time I will take it in on the sides or size down, and add at least one inch to the sleeves and bodice to accommodate my 5'11" height.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes and yes.
Conclusion:
Love this pattern, I hope they make it forever in case I wear mine out! |
I don't think it looks like pj's at all! And I have a teenage daughter who just told me you look "cool". They are all wearing that style - will have to put this pattern on my wishlist.

Western shirts can be sexy when they fit well. I must be out of the loop - I didn't realize young people are wearing them now...cool. Will look forward to your plaid version. Your current shirt does not look like PJs to me....I'll bet it's comfy though. By the way, Islander Sewing Systems has western shirts for guys and gals.
