Daughter decided she needed skirts......ok then.....
We are raising our children to be modest in dress, not to bow down to current trends of showing butt, etc. in their school clothes (at home they lean towards sweatpants and tshirts).
I originally bought this pattern to make the jumper, which will be made at a later time, but DD wanted more skirts to wear to school and i wanted to make her one that was Christmas themed. Found some adorable fabric with Hello Kitty on it (her current theme that she adores) and decided to make the skirt from the pattern before the jumper.
The skirt is super easy to make, consisting of only 1 pattern piece, and requiring elastic for the waist. This is one that I will be giving to her to make more skirts from this summer since she wants them to be the main part of her wardrobe instead of jeans.
It ends up being a twirly skirt - full circle - so it is definitely one that needs tights or leggings under it. To make it so that she could wear it for more than 1 year, I cut the correct size for her waist, but extended the length to the next size - an increase of 1.25" in length (of course, when you do the hem, you lose a bit, which is why the additional length was a good thing).
Super easy and definitely one that will be sticking around in my pattern box for a while. |
