| Pattern Description:
Tank for beginners, consisting of two pattern pieces with binding around the neck and armholes.
Pattern Sizing:
I cut a size 4, following my bust measurement. The pattern was true to size.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. This was my second time sewing a garment from a pattern, so what I didn't understand ("finish seams") I googled.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: true to size, lots of possibilities to use your own creativity to embellish, cute short length that is perfect for wearing with high-waisted bottoms, no need for fasteners as it slips over head...although I added an exposed zipper anyway just because I like them.
Dislike: The arm holes are too high under the arm! I will definitely cut them a bit lower next time, although I think it might need a tube top worn underneath for modesty if I do that.
Fabric Used:
I used vintage hot pink bias tape for the trim, vintage white bias tape for the inner seams and an invisible stitch for the hem and outer seam bindings. The body of the shirt is a white Indian handwoven organic cotton. It was sheer so I cut two of each pattern piece and treated them as one layer when sewing the garment. It definitely isn't see-through and is a great winter-weight tank to wear with a jacket. Of course I ran out of fabric and had to patch together pieces for the inside layer...Why make a two piece garment when you can turn it into a six piece garment, right? Ha.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added a functional exposed zipper in the back.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Definitely. A lot of people didn't like the short length but I like it-you just need to wear it with high-waisted pants if you don't want your midriff showing. It is definitely a style.
Conclusion:
The underarm issue was a bit worrisome, but overall the pattern was good enough so that I'm looking forward to ordering a Collette pattern. And I also learned, even if your bias tape says colorfast on the package, prewash it before you sew it on to a white garment. I didn't and had color bleeding issues
