Pattern Description:
Semi-fitted, lined, partially interfaced, below waist jacket has princess seams, slightly extended shoulders, shoulder pads, in-seam pockets with pleats, side panels (no side seams), shaped hem, and long two-piece sleeves with buttoned vents. A: underlined and couture construction techniques
Pattern Sizing:
Women's 6-22
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes and No. The overall shape is the same; however, because I used lace for the sleeves, lapel, and side panels the look is different
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes; however, because of the use of lace in the sleeves and lapels I omitted some of the couture techniques such as pad stitching the lapels and the use of shoulder pads and hand sewing the sleeve lining.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved the pocket pleats which I didn't notice until I was actually constructing the jacket.
Fabric Used:
This jacket is for my DN who lives in California. Last year when they were visiting for Christmas, she selected the pattern and these fabrics from my stash.
A wonderful worsted wool that I puchased at the American Sewing Expo in 2009 for the bulk of the jacket shell.
Black lace from Joann's for the sleeves and side panels.
Red acetate was used to line the wool sections and black organza was used to line the lace sections.
Interfacing was purchased from Silohuette Patterns
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The one change that I made because I used lace and I expect that DN will wear this a lot was to serge the armholes instead of hand sewing the sleeve lining. The remainder I hand sewed the jacket lining using the couture techniques.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will definitely sew this again. This was not my first couture garment and I highly recommend this pattern because of the well written couture techniques given by Claire Shaeffer.
Conclusion:
DN was thrilled with her jacket and her comment was, I can't wait to wear it to school!

Wow! What a fun jacket! Being an old fart myself, I'd never have imagined putting those two fabrics together, but it suits her obvious youthful joy and energy. :) Very on-trend this season, too with the semi-see-through lace. Well done! btw... (orphan over here).. what does "DN" stand for, please?
